The competition for the New Zealand Millennium Cup took place over three days of races in the Waitemata Harbour, Auckland. Being so central, the event provided great entertainment for viewers onshore.
Taking part in the event and competing for the Millenium Cup were33.8m Silvertip, built by Yachting Developments, 32m Eclipse, 48.5m Georgia, 44m Imagine and 39.6m Janice of Wyoming, all built by Alloy Yachts. The final race, unfortunately was abandoned mid way through due to calm weather conditions. The event was won by Silvertip based on the results of the 2nd day of racing.
Despite a poor weather forecast, the Auckland clouds held off and provided sunshine for the entire event. All in all it was a very successful event and is set to be an annual occurrence in Auckland. Organisers hope it will become the premier superyacht event of the South Pacific.
The end of the regatta was celebrated with a gala dinner and prize giving for all organizers, sponsors and competetors at the new ‘Cloud’ venue.
The Dockwise Yacht Transport vessel came in to Wynyard Wharf at the Ports of Auckland on the 8th of February to pick up namely M/Y Slojo and S/Y Endeavor.
The huge carrier made the waterfront of Auckland look insignificant as patrons of the Wynyard quarter, bars and restaurants gasped in awe as the monstrosity of ingenious engineering gradually sank itself.
Super Servant 4 came from Australia carrying M/Y Codene and a couple of medium sized trawlers and smaller sail yachts in to the Auckland harbour. The majority of these stayed on board while they loaded the larger of the lot, Endeavour and Slojo. More...

Although it has been a terrible summer here in Auckland I think it’s safe to say that the team at 37South has made the most of their little Christmas break. Big Fish is back in the Pacific after 45,000nm of chartering the world. From the Antarctic to the Baltic, the roof of Russia to the Caribbean, Big Fish has had an exceptional maiden voyage, motoring her way in to the history books. The 45m motor yacht built for Aquos Yachts by McMullen and Wing in New Zealand is finally on her way home to the Pacific for charter during 2012. Our TRAC stabiliser installers have been back over in Western Australia recently with two retrofit projects underway in Fremantle (they also managed to fit in a quick visit to Eden Park for some RWC action). O'Hana is an interesting project, upgrading a Sunseeker 82 to Zero Speed TRAC stabilisers. Sunseeker now fits TRAC stabilisers to most of the larger boats in their range when they are built new in the UK but there are many earlier models that were built before stabilisers were standard or optioned with Zero Speed. Boat Shows
The Fort Lauderdale boat show was a great success, smaller than the pre-recession shows but there was definitely optimism being shown from the industry. Everyone had a great time trying to avoid the floods! Allan used his kiwi ingenuity and created a rain coat for himself out of a rubbish bag as other attendees struggled to keep their shoes dry. Monaco was thankfully a lot drier and it seems no matter what's going on in surrounding countries Monaco remains bustling, glamorous and beautiful. Allan and Fleur look forward to attending the Antigua show in December.
